Celebrating The Doors

From now on, on the 4th of January every year, I want everyone to celebrate the mighty band called The Doors. This is a request not only by me, but also by the city of Los Angeles, who have proclaimed the date as the ‘Day of The Doors’.

In true Jim Morrison style, it would be fitting to go wild, go crazy, and simply not care.

Surviving members of The Doors, John Densmore and Robby Krieger returned to where The Doors originated in Venice, California on January 4th 2017. That date marked an outstanding 50 years since the band released their first album back in 1967. Densmore and Krieger returned to visit their roots and while there played a breezy version of ‘L.A. Woman’ to the crowd.

Densmore and Krieger talked to Associated Press before the event, and assured us that if Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek were by their side today, they would have loved the anniversary ceremony. Who would know what Jim would have said or done; probably something insane. Here is the full interview below:

Both band members, despite their age, did not fail to please the crowds with their performance and speeches. There was no sign of any talent worn away, even after half a century since the band was formed they still brought the fire.

The festivities surrounding the 50th anniversary continue in March this year, when their self-titled debut album will be reissued as an anniversary edition. I thoroughly recommend a listen if you haven’t heard the record or even the band before.

But from every January 4th now on, The Doors fans worldwide, including myself, will be remembering and celebrating the incredibly influential and amazing band, The Doors.
